value of 16 gauge sink over 18 gauge in residential home
Hi,
I understand that a key determinant of the quality of a sink is how low the gauge is. I have read that a good quality sink should be 15 or 16 gauge. Is it going to make a noticeable difference to have a 16 gauge sink in a residential home (a noticeable improvement over an 18 gauge sink) if I do not have a garbage disposal (apparently these require a heavier sink to be quieter and not so rattle-y.) Thanks |

Sorry, the title should be 16 and 18 gauge sink not 16 and 1 gauge sink.

you'll probably get slightly better heat retention of the water, the sink won't flex when you grab the faucet (surface mount only) and it'll be a bit quieter when water hits the steel, this depends on sound dampening material underneath as well. But the biggest selling factor is the food waste disposal issue. I doubt you'd be unhappy with an 18ga sink as opposed to a 16ga. Just don't make the mistake to go thinner than 18, you'll regret it
