Question

Using a pipe threading machine (with 2" pipes)

i live in washington, dc where tradesmen apparently make more money than lawyers and doctors, at least according to their estimates.

i need to reposition some radiator 2" pipes and am looking into doing it myself as i refuse to be robbed (one guy asked me for $1,800 for one day of work !!!).

was wondering what i should know about using a pipe threader that i can rent from a plumbing supply store ? is it within the DIY domain ?

HD can also do the threading for me but i absolutely hate the idea of having to bring them accurate measurements (i HATE precise measuring - rough is okay) and having to buy and carry a new pipe if i made a mistake. i like having the tool/control and the flexibility of trial/error.

thanks,

- a

You can get manual pipe threading tools or a machine. Go with a machine and 2" dies, and simply have them check you out on the sequence.
It isn't that difficult, and a DIYer can do it.
Good Luck!
