new 3x3 shower and bath floor in tile, project in progress
Hot Mop is done
now the contractor wants to put in the mortar before drywall tomorrow morning.
Question 1: drywall first??
I think the orded should be:
Hot mop
drywall(because mortart goes right up to drywall)
mortar before or after paint
paint
tile
this way the mortar will fit next to the drywall and the drywall will not have to be hacked to fit the irregular mortar.
paint before tile because I am not a good enough painter to not get paint on the grout.
I had this same shower done
3 years ago and they did it all wrong, I bought a jackhammer and took 4 months to remove it.
Lawyer said when I know what they are doing is wrong--tell them to leave, and then call the police from the other room if they don't leave. (They had said they were doing the drywall then the tile) I has taken me 3 years to feel confortable in starting the project again.
I have since learned to ask questions which require more than yes as an answer or phrase it to get a 'no' for the answer. I should have said 'are you doing tile first then drywall?'.
I discovered later they didn't speak english.
they did hot mop then
mortar
tiles-- yup they set the tiles on the bare wood studs

, I kid you not!!!

they never did get around to doing the drywall, not that they could have gotten it behind the tile anyway.
Now they say they are going to do the mortar first before drywall.

question 2: also shouldn't they replace the shower valve BEFORE putting in the mortar?--so they don't have to bust in from the living room again?
yes, this is a different licensed contractor and I have seen their work in two other homes
