Tying into main stack in basement

Hi,
I just bought an old house and inherited everything that comes with it. Including knob & tube wiring and a cast stack. Taking things one step at a time, I am also the proud owner of a new washing machine. I would like to drain it in properly to the cast iron stack in the basement. There are hot and cold water taps nearby and the stack is about 4' from where the washer will go. The huge cast pipe from floor to ceiling has about 5 or 6 14" sections and looks daunting. Is this even possible and what about venting? The pipes are properly vented out the roof from this main stack. I'm unable to upload a pic. for some reason but picture an unfinished 60yr old (or more) basement.
Any advise would be appreciated.
