Two tub spout pipe questions

I recently remodeled a bathroom. Is it OK to caulk around the tub spout copper pipe where is exits the wall? More specifically, caulk the hole in the drywall that the pipe exits out of? I'm thinking that this will prevent any water from getting back behind the wall ...

Also, despite my efforts, the copper pipe is not square to the wall. I've tried bending it, to no avail. I used a threaded elbow for the tub spout, and screwed it to board. Would severing the screws make it any easier/better? I could replace the pipe coming out of the wall (since it's a threaded connection), but I'm not sure how that'd help me...

Thanks for your help,
