Two sump pumps, one drain?

I currently have a sump pump in my basement that is routed through the foundation to a dry well with PVC pipe. When I bought the house, there was a lot of junk and debris in the basement, and I'm just now getting it all thrown out. In the process, I found a second sump pit (without a pump) in another corner. The PVC for the sump pump runs almost directly over this second pit. It appears that water is coming up through this pit, crossing the basement and running into the pit with a pump. Is there a way to put in a second pump and connect it to the drain the first pump is using? I'm assuming there will have to be some sort of one way valve so that the water from pump 2 isn't pumped towards pump 1.

Ayuh,... If it's draining alright Now,...

Why would you need a 2nd pump,..??

Mainly because I don't really want the water running across the entire basement to get to the second pit. The floor must be pretty level because half the basement floor is wet because of this.

Sounds like you need two check valves and a y, Y, or a T. perhaps even an F setup. I had a similar situation when I hooked up my emergency Battery powered reserve pump. I had two pumps going into one PVC drain pipe. Home depot has the check valves for under 10 bucks as I recall. Each pump has to have a check valve to prevent backflow if only one pump is running.

You need to be sure that the PVC pipe is large enough if sump pumps in both pits are running at the same time.

Otherwise install a separate PVC outlet for the second pump.
