Tub taps vs sink taps

Is there a difference? I am installing an oval tub that sits inside an outer shell. Not an issue, but someone mentioned that the taps (faucets) are different for tubs than the ones used for bathroom sinks. Apparently is has to do with the amount of water flow. True?
