Tub spout with pull-up diverter valve

I have a 34 year old home with a combination tub/shower pull up diverter valve in the end of the spout. This spout has a threaded plastic insert in the spout that threads onto the pipe coming through the wall. My problem is that said pipe has a soldered adapter that is 1-1/4" male thread and all I can find are 1/2" or 3/4" spouts. Any suggestions and thank you.

Is it a big brass soldered adapter that has a black o-ring in a groove near the end??

I think that broox is hinting that you may have a Delta---Sure sounds like it--post a picture if you can --
what brand is the mixer?---If Delta---Just get a new Delta spout---call them---May well be free

Then I believe it is a delta brand shower valve and to reuse that adapter, you will need to get a delta factory part to replace it- that brass adapter came with the spout and they are not interchangeable with other brands, as you have learned. Like mike said, maybe delta will send you a new one if you contact them. If that is not ideal, they make diverterspouts that clamp onto half inch copper pipe, but you would have to cut the copper and I am not sure you would have enough room to properly install that clamping kind of spout. Good Luck.

There is about 2 inches of 1/2" copper pipe "after" the adapter, if this would suffice, what brand of clamping spout should I look for? Thank you for your assistance.

2 inches might be enough, but I would have the spout in hand and measure and see. There is no brand in particular I am thinking of, just a general plumbing repair part. Why are you trying to replace it after all??

Go to a plumbing supply house---get a delta--or ask for a push on spout--Moen is good-

That two inches sounds short---No good quality push on spouts are available at the Big Box stores--

Really appreciate your help, was able to find correct spout from Delta on line and ordered same. Ten dollars cheaper than local supply and free shipping. Warranty was only five years back then compared to lifetime today. Again, many thanks.

Thanks so much for this thread - it was very helpful! FYI, the Delta part name for the O ring is RP12307. The Delta faucets that have the adapter are the RP5834, the RP4161, and the RP38450. Thanks again!
