Tub spout diverter problem

The diverter for my shower, the type with the little knob on the tub spout that you pull up, stopped working this morning. You can still pull it up and it stops the water from coming out of the spout but nothing comes out of the shower. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to go about fixing it?

Two possibilities, easy and hard.

Easy - Plugged shower head, unscrew from shower arm and try again, if you get water- replace showerhead. (or you could try cleaning out the old one)

Hard - Some thing wrong with shower valve (plugged). If this is a single handled valve, replace the cartriage in the valve. While you have it out turn the water back on for a second to blow out any debris. If this is a 2 handle valve, remove both valve stems and turn water back on to blow out debris. Reassemble and test. If this fails replace shower valve. (or call plumber to do it)

Tub spout diverter problem

Remove the showerhead (not the arm or you will have water inside the wall) Then try the diverter.
