tub and shower diveter

I bought a house about a year ago, and I replaced the homemade bathtub shower kit in the bathroom. I also put new pipes in the wall that goes to the shower and the tub, but any time the water is turned on, it comes on in the tub and the shower. I thought that the diverter was faulty and has replaced it several times, but that didn't correct the problem. So any time anybody goes to take a bath, they have to deal with the shower also.

what type of pipes did you use
if pex did you use pex to go from valve to tub diverter the fitting reduce the pipe size which in return creates back pressure that would push up to shower head
can you confirm that shower valve is in the correct up position
