Tub replacement

I am replacing my tub with just a shower. Do I need to move the drain to he center and make the drain bigger?

Yes--2 inch drain---centered looks best but is not essential if you are building your own pan---

they make shower units that fit into your existing tub opening with drain on left or right.....but still needs to be 2"......I have seen many ,many times 1 1/2 traps under showers...not code and would not pass an inspection...

huh if it is not code to use 1 1/2" if it is a shower that uses over 5.7 gpm
yes a 1 1/2 drain can work look at code chart for shower trap size
why is it that people think it wont work if it is not in their local code and why is it that the codes can very so much but both work fine huh must come to someones opinion instead of protecting the health and welfare of the community

and yes ben is right get a shower pan with drain on the correct side and then trap will need minimum adjustment just make sure floor joist is not in way if near existing tub drain. might need to check with new shower pan drain rough in measurements before buying.

i have seen this type of thing disputed in court that their is a difference between code(persons opinion) and protecting the health and welfare of community. and locally it was ruled that protecting the health and welfare of community and that it will operate correctly rules over local code (persons opinion) .
