Trying to remove faucet covers access stems

I'm confused. I've fixed manya faucet before, but can't figure out how to get the decorative cap off the faucet handle. I've tried prying off, but don't seem to be getting anywhere. It's a Delta Faucet that must be discontinued now. I've attached a picture of the handle. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Is it possible that the top is a twist off??? I am with you, prying is how I have always done it. A nice thin piece of stiff plastic so as to not harm the finish and it usually pops off.

I've tried razor knife, screwdriver and chisel to no avail. Fortunately I haven't banged up the finish (yet). There really isn't any room to grip the top in order to twist it off. I did try with compression from above with my hand, but no movement.

What about the whole decorative cover, will it twist off, not just the top piece???? Is the shut of valve off.

I have called Moen when I had questions, I would think Delta also has help lines.

It doesn't appear that the whole handle comes off. There is no way that I can see to remove the entire cover. It looks like the top should come off, but I can't get it to budge. I'm guessing it is the original in the house, which would put it at about 18 years. I did try calling Delta but they don't help people on Sunday. If I don't get an answer on this site I'll try them again tomorrow or Tuesday.

Thanks.

WD40?? could it just be stuck on over the years?? Trying to think of anything that might help you!!

One other thought, have you tried to work from the bottom up?? release the handle from under the sink?? Would that help??

Thx for the posts. I don't think underneath would help. I still wouldn't be able to access the stem. Has anyone had to work on a faucet with these handles before?

Tang50. I have exactly the same type leaky Delta faucet as you. About the same age, too. I can't get the decorative cap off. Did you ever figure this problem out?

How can you tell the age of a faucet?

But to address Handyguy63's original post, Delta seems to have many different faucets that all use the same stem but different handles covering that stem. And Delta's favorite means for securing the handle to the stem is with a buried set screw that takes a 1/8" or 3/32" allen wrench. The photo shows only the front of the handle. Is there a small hole somewhere at the back of it that provides access to such a set screw?

If what AlbacoreShuffle provided worked, what's the stem look like? The leaky faucet I have has this one and although I've been able to remove the handle, I can't pull the stem out. The instructions indicate I should be able to be pull it out once the handle is removed, but this one doesn't budge. Is your stem the same and did you have any problem removing it? I'm afraid that if I used more force than I already have, I'll do some unrepairable damage to the part the stem is inside of. If you or anyone reading this has some advice for me, I'd like to hear it.

The faucet assembly part number is Delta Faucet 4530-PBLHP and a photo is shown below.
