Trouble installing tub

I put the new tub in place and the drain is about 1' SHY of reaching the hole in the tub. The house is on a slab and there is a drip well under the drain area. The edge of the well prevents the drain pipe from lining with the hole in the tub. What to do?

Trouble installing tub

I mentioned to my wife that I was going to do that and she had a fit. She's afraid that I would crack the slab. I was hoping that there might be another way to make her happy. I don't see where chipping an inch or so off the edge of that hole would be that big of a deal.
