i want to install a toilet in my basement. i want to tie into the existing stack / vent which is 6 foot from where i want to place the toilet. my question is do i need to add another vent or would the existing stack / vent be enough?

toilet venting

The toilet itself probably won't require a vent.
However, the sink (and shower?) you'll want to have nearby will.
