toilet thumping
I bought a new Champion ( am.stand) toilet for its stronger flushing but now I hear a thumping in pipes under the floor every time it is flushed. Is this damaging my house? I have county sewage.

The closet bend sewer pipe under the new stronger-flushing toilet is probably just not secured to the framing enough to keep it from thumping from the increased stronger water flow.
It will probably be OK, but if it is accessible without tearing into a ceiling (in a crawlspace or basement), just secure it better with strapping made for the purpose, which can be gotten at most any plumbing hardware store. Good Luck! Mike |
Is is a loud thump, or a not so loud thump? Try pouring some water drirectly in the toilet with a bucket. If you do not here the sound, it is more than likely a water hammer.

Thanks for your help. I doesn't sound like a serious problem so I can wait to call a plumber until I have more money. |
