Toilet Tank Won't Fill Up with Water

I do not have the floating ball in my toilet tank, but the other kind.

I can flush it sbout once per day because the tank won't fill. The water supply IS turned on.

Any ideas?

This system is BRAND NEW! When I turn the water off and jiggle stuff and turn the water back on the tanks starts filling up with water...but when I flush, it will flush but won't fill back up.

Help!

At the bottom of the tank in the center there should be what is known as a "flapper" that sits in a drain hole. This flapper raises when you flush so that water can evacuate the tank into the bowl. As the tank water descends the flapper should automatically settle and re-seat itself in the drain hole. Something is stopping the flapper from falling into the correct position.

Sometimes the linkage from the handle to the flapper hangs up or.
Sometimes the flapper hinge fowls.
Sometimes the flapper itself becomes damaged and can't seat properly.

Check that stuff out and see what you find.

Jheeeeezh !!!

You didn't say that.
You have a float that slides up and down a collumn. Is that float able to slide up and down the collumn?

I guess I should ask if you are on a city water supply system or are you using a well?

Yeah...sorry about that. This a rental and I was going off what the tenant told me. I replaced all the guts about a month ago...after I installed the new stuff ...the water would flush out...but then just stop/nothing coming in at all. After tweaking it and looking over everything I was able to get the water to come back in and fill the tank with water. I flushed about three times and everything was fine. When I emailed my tenant the other day to see how it was going, she informed me the shortly after I replaced the guts, water was not filling the tank so she just used the other bathroom!

I was able to get the float to slide up and down a rod/column...at least it was doing so the last time I was there so I'm not sure what is happening! Heather

In my opinion those type apparatus aren't built that well. But I'm sure there are millions of them in use also. I had similar issues and after the third (new) valve assembly I went back to the old fashion ball float and fill tube. But, we are on a well and sand in the valve was always suspect in my thinking but never did find a single grain of sand anywhere.

I guess the first thing I would do is return the thing and get another one.
