Toilet overflow after water shut off

If a toilet clogs and can not be cleared with a plunger and overflows with clean water after the water has been shut off to the toilet is this a overflow problem? I am on the third floor and the toilet clogged, could not clear with plunging, water reseded almost completely from tank. The next morning it had filled again with clean water overflowing.the tank????

There is more wrong with that toilet than just a clog. The tank has an overflow but if the main drain is clogged then so is the tank overflow.

The tank can't overflow if the water is shut off.

The bowl can overflow (one time) if the water is shut off, the drain is clogged, and you flush the sucker just one more time to see what will happen.

You need a plumber not a DIY Forum.

The tank can never overflow.

It will always flow out into the bowl and the bowl will overflow.

Your bowl is clogged. Call a pro if you can't get it with a plunger. They have the right tool.

I do have to admit most people don't know how to use a plunger properly. I've gone into houses and used their plunger for them, and didn't have to dirty up my toilet auger.
