toilet installation gushing

I just re-installed my toilet after re-tiling the floor, everything seemed nice and tight, did a test flush and all the water gushed out of the bottom center tank. I've installed many toilets and never had this happen. I confess I didn't really check that part of the tank, never had a problem there before. What did I miss, guys?

The old rubber gasket between the tank and bowl base (and the tank bolts) probably need to be replaced.
Take it apart and get a gasket made just like the old one. Should solve the problem.
Also, if you added tile, I hope that you raised the flange to sit flush on top of the finished tile floor level, so that the wax ring will seal properly. If you just replaced an old layer of tile and the height is the same, all should be O.K.
Good Luck!
Mike

When moving the toilet, did you crack the lower part of the tank that attaches to the bowl?

Or the rubber gasket/washers that seal the two bolts between the tank and the bowl may be old and worn. How old is the toilet?

:D You know how sometimes you're so smart you're full of yourself, and other times you can't even believe you're related to yourself? Guess I discarded the gasket when I pulled out the toilet, wisely thinking it should be replaced, then didn't even look at it when I reinstalled. This is what I get for doing all my work late at night/not my first dumb mistake, nor likely my last. Flushing happily now.

Next I'm doing a new sink area. I guess tile-in sinks have fallen out of favor as Home Depot no longer even carries them, but I'll find mine elsewhere.

Thanks.

I am posting this for all those who encounter the same problem, and like me, went searching online for the answer. I'll take a guess that the brand of toilet of the original poster is "Gerber." I have a Gerber toilet, and I had the same thing happen to me. I discovered after much searching that the Gerber gasket is thicker than a regular (Fluidmaster replacement) gasket. After going to a plumbing supply store (not Home Depot or Lowes) and purchasing one made specifically for Gerber toilets, my toilet was working like a charm once again. If you can't find the Gerber gasket, you can order it online from Korky.com.

The brand name don't matter. If you don't have a tank gasket, it'll leak like hell! That's a funny story, Shari.
