Toilet Flush, Shower Drain Trash

Whenever I flush my toilet, my shower drain makes a noise and nasty-looking trash comes out of my shower drain. I have been living in this house for 2-3 months, and this is the first time something like this has happened. My father says to pour some Drano into the shower drain. Is this a good idea? Can someone please advise me? Thanks.

Something is stopping your drain. It is most likely not the shower but the main line. Is it a new house? The nasty looking stuff is from the toilet. If this is the first time it has happened get a plunger and try that. If there are clean outs I would snake it it the plunger fails. The plumber in a can works better on TV than in the drains.

Absolutely no drain-o.

besides, if it's a problem with the main, draino probably won't work anyway. Need a snake for that baby i'll bet.

Great advice from these guys! Drain-o won't fix this problem. If there's not a cleanout available, you can pull the toilet and get at it from there. Something is definately obstructing that drain somewhere downstream of the toilet and shower.
