Toilet Flange

I just purchased my first home which is 18 yrs old. It is a 2 story colonial with 2 full baths. I want to install Vinyl Tile self stick tiles over the existing sheet Vinyl Tile. In the future, about 3 years I will hire a professional to install high quality ceramic tile.

I removed the toilet and was having trouble removing 1 of the closet bolts. Both the screw and nut was turning. I managed to finally get the toilet off. I noticed some mold growth on the wax ring and observed the metal flange had rusted bolts. Now I'm nervous about how much rot there is in wood floor. This is my first time dealing with this type of toilet issue. I'm not afraid to tackle projects and like to do be handy, but don't like to get in over my head. I like the do it yourself videos. Do I need to tear up the existing Vinyl floor to find the extent of the rot? How do I replace the steel flange? It seems glued to the sewer pipe.

Toilet Flange

Take a screw driver and push around the flange. You should be able to tell how much dry rot there is.

Heck post a pic
