Toilet on concrete, or on tile?

I'm replacing both my toilet and the vinyl in the bathroom. After removal of the old vinyl and toilet, can the new toilet be installed on top of the new vinyl, or should I installed it on the concrete and THEN lay the tile?

Always, always, always.....flooring THEN toilet and vanity (or pedestal sink). It keeps one from having to ask for forgiveness at church on Sunday for all the swearing, kicking and screaming that comes with doing it the other way around.

Flooring first, then set the toilet. Vinyl will not be thick enough to compromise the wax seal. Trying to cut the flooring to fit around the base of the toilet will be a real pain, and for no reason.

That's EXACTLY why I had to find this forum and ask you folks! I'm not one bit afraid of laying the tile, but when I started thinking about how to make it look good cutting around the damn toilet, it just wasn't making sense. I'm really relieved to read the consensus here: tile first, then toilet.

And as for installing the toilet: I'm gonna have someone who knows what they're doing do that.

Too late for that, I'm afraid. I just bought a foreclosed house that 18 Hurricane Katrina people lived in. Everything has to be either replaced or repainted. I've used some cuss words I'm sure nobody's ever heard before.
