Toilet bowl slowly draining

My toilet flushes fine, and it will have about 6 inches of water in it when the cycle is complete, but when I go back a few hours later, most of the water is gone. Sometimes it's actually gone so low that the trap has a gap in it (i.e., there's an open path to the stack.

Is this a problem with the vent?

Sounds like a vent problem. Not enough air behind the water and it is siphoning.

sounds like the line is partially plugged, thats why its siphoning. In 20 years as a plumber I never had a problem that was a clogged vent unless the line was plugged and blocking off the vent.

Thanks Danny.

Not what I wanted to hear, but better to know about it now. I'll check the roof first anyway, since it's easy.
