Threads broken off copper DVW pipe- replacement?

I am replacing an old vanity, and the P trap assembly had been connected to the DVW pipe in the wall via a fernco fitting (since I moved in). It is connecting the 1 1/2" OD p trap pipe to the 1 5/8" OD DVW pipe. Upon removing the fernco fitting I see why it was used- the pipe is broken off at the end, without any threads.

So- I could certainly continue to use a fernco fitting on this but it doesn't seem to be the most elegant solution. I am guessing that I could use a hacksaw to cut off an even section of the pipe, then sweat on a threaded connection, and thread in a slip joint of the appropriate size. I can't find a sweat threaded connection however- any leads on that? Or am I just approaching this wrong?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Threads broken off copper DVW pipe- replacement?

Hmmm- came across this product when I searched for Copper DWV fittings:

http://www.pexsupply.com/Cello-WD84-...pter-8922000-p

Any ideas on if this will give me the "standard" DWV threads I need to put a slip nut on?

For my money I'd replace all of that brass pipe and replace with PVC.
Way to many times I've seen copper and brass drain line corroded and leaking.
