Threaded shower head connection too close to ceiling

So,
When my plumber installed my plumbing in my new basement bathroom, I don't think he fully realized how low the drop ceiling would be. Thus, the ceiling is right above where the pipe exits the wall. This last weekend I attempted to screw on the shower head attachment and I don't have enough space to turn the attachment before it hits the ceiling.

My first thought was to just get a straight nipple and put the shower head on to that, but the shower head doesn't tilt enough and so I'm back to square one.

Any thoughts on what to do?

Thanks!

Allan

Unless you can prove the plumber was negligent then its hard to put the blame on him. In my opinion (that of a homeowner/contractor), if you didnt check his work to confirm what he did or you told him where to put it, then you are at fault if you GC'ed the work yourself. My guess is the plumber set that at a standard height.

That being said, give him a call and see if he will help you out. There is something to be said about being nice to someone and asking for their help. Especially if you cut open the wall for him and all he has to do is come back, cut the feed tube and resolder a fitting back on. Give him a call and go from there is my opinion.

Yea, I'm not at all blaming the plumber, he's a really great guy and did everything really well. I've tried to call him and he hasn't returned my phone calls, so I was just looking for a solution that I could do myself and wouldn't necessitate ripping open the wall and replacing tiles.

Oh you have tiles in already? Yeah, keep trying to call him and see what he says. I honestly dont see anyway around lowering that nipple.

Can you raise the ceiling height in the shower area by and 1"?

That would make it easier, but the ceiling is as high as it will go because of a heating duct.

Abandon the shower arm and use a hand held shower hose instead.

Is the heating duct right over the shower? if not can you build a small soffit at the shower and lower the ceiling?
