Tankless water heater

Do tankless heaters really save you money on electric. I see that they pull more AMPS. Is it worth installing one ?

Tankless water heater

Most definitely, unless you would have to upgrade your electric service. That might add enough cost to make it not worthwhile to do. I have a tankless heater, though it is gas and not electric. Installed it myself. I'll never go back to a tank-type.

One consideration for installing a tankless that's often overlooked: if you have hard water, it will ruin the unit in a short time unless you have a water softener.

Tankless water heater

Tankless are definitely more efficient. It is the potential cost to put one in that can be prohibitive. I looked into one when I replace my water heater recently but it wasn't worth it. Needed to upgrade my gas line, run a circuit for the powered vent and modify the exhaust flue. After all that I said forget it and just went with a more efficient tank version. Besides, the tankless are more complicated and tend to have more problems. If you have a recirc pump in your system it may not work with the tankless because it doesn't draw enough water to kick the unit on.
