tank to bowl gasket and teflon paste

Hi,
I have read in a few places that it is a good idea to use a little teflon paste on the seals when replacing the seals on a toilet tank. Is this true? can it complicate anything or fail down the road any worse than not using it?

well thats news to me 30 yrs never used any thing on tank to bowl gaskets..there rubber or sponge..... can't see where it helps....can't see where it would hurt anything.....unless it reacts to the other material???

Total waist of time and materials.
It's a soft rubber gasket, no sealer is needed.

Don't bother.

Not to mention....that stuff is like axle grease...all ya have to do is look at it and it's ALL over you.

Well, it's back together w/o teflon paste. Although the rubber washer/seals on the long bolts were smaller than the originals, it seems to be holding. These bolts actually seem to work better because they came with an extra nut to fasten against the tanks bottom.

I also discovered Fluidmaster from this lady who really knew her sh_t. Since Chlorine can ruin seals... the fluidmaster injects blue water (or Chlorine, or a kind of septic tank solution) directly into the bowl, rather than into the tank... saving your seals and equipment. What a great idea.

i usually just put a light coat of plumber's grease all over the gasket so it slides and slips in to place a little easier. That's just my own thing, i have no idea if it helps, but it doesn't hurt. Mostly, i think it would be just fine without anything, but i figure if the gasket has been on the shelf for a while, the plumber's grease couldn't hurt if the gasket is somewhat old.
