So I've been doing DIY expansion PEX for several years now and I generally love it, I have the expander tool, and the pipe is reasonably priced.
This is basically Wirsbo, Pro-Pex, Uponor, etc..
However, I'm playing around with solar and pool heating and the cost of a simple 1/2 inch ball valve from pexsupply.com is like 12 bucks! I can't justify doing any projects because it costs so fricking much to do anything..
So basically, my plan is to keep my stock of fittings and do expander pex when I think it makes sense, but start working on using some compression fittings on my pex-a tubing, which seems like it supports both, if i stick with the pex-a seems like I can have the best of both worlds, use the expander tool for my general home plumbing projects, but for my hobby projects, use a more affordable method..
Has anyone else been in this boat? What kind of crimp tool did you buy, and can you recommend a good source to get the tool and the crimp fittings, etc..
