sump pump where does it empty to ?

Hello
At my son's Home he has been in for two years I noticed his sump pump dumping into a 4" pipe going into the ground behind the house. I wonder where does this go? My son was never told and we just wonder if there is a code that determine's where this should go?

Probably out into the yard........ Not much "code" for runoff / Sumps in residential applications..... other than not hooking into the sanitary lines....

sump pump where does it empty to ?

Residentail sump pump discharge could go almost anywhere...piped into a drainage ditch, a "dry" sump pit, an underground perforated drain tile, a sewer or septic system, or just out on the surface of a yard, etc., unless there are some local code restrictions.
No telling. As long as whatever it is isn't plugged up and it takes all of the sump pump discharge with no problem, I wouldn't worry about it.
If that 4" pipe is "open", I would wrap it with something to prevent dirt, leaves, debris from eventually clogging it, however.
Good Luck!

In Canada, some jurisdictions by code determines whether it goes to storm drane or sewage. So it may depend where his home is....
