im buying house that has sump pit ... do i have anything to worry bout
The previous owner or the owner before him may have taken the sump pump with him.
If the basement has flooded in the past then you know you should buy a sump pump and get it ready to use (not just sit in its box in the corner).
If the basement has never flooded before, then a surveyor can find the water table and predict the chances of a flooded basement, but cannot guarantee anything.
If your lot is higher than the neighbors' you have less of a chance of a flooded basement but again there is no guarantee. The water table can differ by a few feet from lot to lot also.
The good conscientious technician or serviceperson will carry extra oils and lubricants in case the new pump did not come with oil or the oil was accidentally spilled, so the service call can be completed without an extra visit.
