sump pump 'loud knock/pop"

Hi - I put in a new sump punp this week and attached it to the existing lines which includes a check valve (brass). When the pump completes its cycle - randomly there is a loud pop or knock - loud enough to hear upstairs on the main floor. Can anyone point me to the cause and what I could diy to address this - Many thanks

That's your check valve slamming shut and shaking the pipes!

there are devices called Water Hammer Arrestors that are supposed to quiet the type of noise you are hearing.

I've never seen one used on a sump discharge line---usually moving the check valve up a bit helps or switching to a different style does the trick.

I used one of these on my ejection pump and you cannot hear it even in the basement. The flapper is spring loaded and shuts as the pump pressure drops at shut off. I tried three different valves before I found this type. The other two sounded like someone jumped off the kitchen counter when it shut off.
