sump pump issue

My sump pump is running like normal (sound wise) but not sucking up the water. It has been quite cold here (Nova Scotia) but I checked the outlet to the drain and it seemed fine. When I took off the pump the water that was stored in the pipe came back out so I figured there was no issues with the pipe line.

I am assuming its within the motor or pump and I am a complete novice so forgive anything I said that may sound elementary. It is a stainless steel model and one other time it wasn't running right but the noise made it obvious, this time its sounds as if its running as per usual but not sucking anything out.

Please advise

You may need to do some disassembly. It COULD be that the impellor shaft broke or the impellor came loose and is not actually spinning to pick up the water.
