My sump pump gets stuck in the running position and the float ball won't come down. I don't want to burn out the motor. It is most likely the original pump (1977). Can I unstick this thing?
If it is the type that the float rides on a rod, clean and lubricate the rod. If it is the type that the switch is in a ball on the end of a cord, make sure there is noting that it can hang up on. But if the pump is that old, I would consider a new pump.
if this is the fact, and cleaning it does not fix it, they make float switches you can mount to the existing w/o having to replace the pump.
