Sump Pump "BUMP"
Our sump pump runs about every 10-15 minutes here due to a high water table. At the end of the cycle there is a loud "BUMP" that I assume is coming from the anti-backflow valve closing shut with the water pressure above it. Checked the pipes and they are strapped really tight so there is no knocking against the floor joists.

Any experience out there muffling, insulating or eliminating this sound?
My wife is a light sleeper and I would be a hero if I could solve this one.

Thanks in advance!

How old is the unit?

Sounds like a check valve located on a vertcal pipe. You could move the valve to the closest horizonal run of pipe. They also make spring operated check valves that may be quieter for you.

Problem fixed!
Thanks for the replies.
I changed the sump pump and check valve. Valve was halfway between floor and ceiling, now it is in the pit with the pump. No more "BUMP"
Thanks again.
