Sump Pump for bathroom

My sump pump stopped working last week, I found the problem, the float switch, which I have too pick up. While I have it all apart, I want to know if there is any thing I can do to check out the pump. The pump is a FE Meyers, Ashland Ohio, Model MW50-1. according to the tag, it was installed in Sept. 99. It is made of cast iron. Can you give me an idea of how long I can expect it to last? If that is not too long, would it be a good idea to replace it now? And if so, can you reccomend a brand or type?

I don't know anything about your exact model pump but Meyers makes a good pump. I have had pumps last 5-15 years depending on the quality. From now on I buy the best that I can afford.
