Sump pump aquarium?

Opened up the pit today to install a backup pump and found 3 frogs living in it! Two are a good 2 1/2" long and the other is a little smaller. Where the heck did they come from? Basement is poured and unfinished but almost completely empty and dry as can be, plus I have a homemade box completely enclosing it.... the echo of dripping water through the wide open basement was driving me nuts at night. My gutters discharge on the yard, not into the drain tile. I'm totally confused (and my wife is freaking out). Any ideas? Thanks all!

And where does the sump dump to? If it's to day light outside they can just follow the line into the sump. There going to do 0 harm and will eat any bugs down there. And no you should not add a screen. There should have been a check valve on the output side of the pump to keep water from running back into the pit when the pump shuts off.

There is a check valve just out of the pump because from there it has a 8' vertical run before going outside, underground, then 100' to the street/ditch.

Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him a-drink his wine
And he always had some mighty fine wine

Experience is Knowing what to do next, Skill is knowing how to do it
