1. is this a good resource guide for DIY sump pump installation ?

2. if not, do you know one ?

3. the above instructions call for the waste to be taken above the pump and outside the house ? i am installing one in a living basement and was wondering if it is okay to have it dispose into the sewer main ?

4. since my basement apt. will have three step levels (entry, step down to main, and then another step down into the bathroom), it makes sense to have the pump in the bathroom. is this, for some reason, a bad idea ?

Before you get started, please be sure you know all the differences between a sump pump and a sewage ejector pump. They are not the same.

The link you referenced is instructions for installing a sump. Sump is designed to pump groundwater out of your basement. If you are installing a new bathroom, you will want to install an ejector pump. Ejector is designed to grind and pump solids out of your basement. Installation is very similar but there are some important differences.

Yes, if you are pumping waste from your bathroom it has to discharge into sewer. It also requires venting.

Yes, pumps should always be in the lowest level in your basement. Good luck with your project.

A sump pump discharging ground water from drain tile cannot be discharged into a SANITARY sewer line (the opposite of a sewerage ejector pump). It should be discharged to the exterior of the house and it may be riuted to a STORM sewer.

For a sump pump, install a check valve just above the pump in the discharge line. This will eliminate short cycling and extend the life of the pump.
