Sump Pump

My basement just recently flooded (after a thaw of 16" of snow and a three hour torrential rain) - only about 1 1/2" of water luckily - 'cause another neighbor had 8" and lost their furnace....The basement is divided into two areas...on side is finished with a floating floor and carpeting (all has been removed)- with a French drainage system and large well and sump pump....the sump/French Drain were installed before I moved in - so after checking the sump which was full and checking the pump - turns out the outlet is dead....the outlet is not grounded and was part of the original 60 year old home (all behind the wall which is now exposed - sheetrock had to be cut 2' all around the room)....anyway I am going to run a dedicated line to the sump - question is does it have to be GFI protected? - I would assume so but some others have said No...I could also install a GFI breaker I suspect if needed?....I live in NY....
Thanks,
Rick

Sump Pump

You may get your answer here but I'd post this over in the electrical forum.

Actually it should NOT be on a GFCI. You don't want a nuisance trip to lead to flooding.

I dont know what a nuisance trip is, but in 08 the code will only except GFCI protection.
