Sudden loss of cold water pressure/flow at the shower only

So out of the blue, the cold water supply at the main bathroom shower/tub has gone to near zero pressure (...or flow, however you want to look at it).
I have good cold water flow at the bathroom sink which is 4' away and good flow at all the other sinks and showers within the house.

Its a MOEN 3-handle shower fixture with seperate hot/cold handles and a middle diverter knob similar to THIS.

The odd thing is its not like this pressure drop has been getting worse over time. One morning it worked normal, the next morning I couldnt keep from scalding myself.

No leaks under the house and I cant hear anything 'running' behind the wall as to indicate a broken water supply.

Any guesses???

The above info seems to point directly at the fixture and not supply.

Is there a shut off on cold water to shower that "someone" has closed?

Right, but I dont see how/why this would occur competely out of the blue.
Do the fixures fail commonly? I've never had a fixture apart and I certainly dont want to tear into the wall.

I have never had or seen the problem you describe. My thinking is that debris or an O-ring may have moved and is the issue, but that's only a guess.

There may be youtube videos that may give you details on taking fixture apart; but may be wait for a plumber (who has experienced the issue) to tell us the solution.

I did find a few links
http://www.terrylove.com/forums/show...ater-in-shower
http://www.moen.com/replacement-parts/troubleshooting#
(look for No Cold or No HOT)

Good luck.

Turns out MOEN has a great website and excellent customer support.
I called and spoke w/ customer service. Definitely a common problem and points to a failure in the cold-side cartridge. The part was under warranty and they were willing to ship me one out right away but I'd rather pay the $13 and pick it up locally so I can have my shower back.

I was reluctant to believe this was the fix because there have been multiple reports online with similar issues and replacing the cartridge did not fix the issue. But MOEN sounds pretty positive thats the problem.

I'll update if the fix is successful.
