sub pump in a lake

I have a question, we own a cottage where we have a conv. jet pump inside our cottage... we have replaced the pump 3 times in the last year and just can't seem to get it to work right, we've replaced the foot valve and even the pipe running from the cottage to the lake... regarless what we do, it continues to lose its prime and just never works right... I'm curious if you can build a housing and put a subm. well pump in a lake and pump the water up the cottage that way. Has anyone done this? will it work?

sub pump in a lake

Ayuh,.......

I built 1 a few years ago, that's still on the bottom of the St. Lawrence river...

I mounted the pump inside a 6' long piece of 12" steel culvert pipe,+ added legs or stands to the ouside to keep it off the bottom alittle bit.....

There's a coupling just up on shore that is disconnected each fall,+ the pump,+ it's line just lay there year round....

Btw,.... Setting up the pump you have now, in a pumphouse close to the water is another option....
Waterpumps Love to Push water, But Hate to Suck it.......

I have a pond and we use a sump pump for a fountain. It is coonected to a float. We have it on a switch and when we want it on we flip the switch. I agree you need to find a way to keep it off the bottom, but I think it could work for you.
