Stupid Question - Shower Valves

Okay guys, I have a dumb question....

Everything in the house, toilets, water heaters, dishwashers, sinks, clothing washers, and icemakers ALL have valves that can be shut off to work on whatever.

Tubs and showers however do not have this capacity.

Can anyone give me a good logical explanation why not? I understand access wouldnot be quite as easy particularly if not plumbed through the attic, but when one has to replace or repackj a shower valve, they have to hassle turning off the whole house's water... why?

Good question but I don't have an answer. Some older homes do have valves covered by access panels usually located in the bottom of a closet, under a sink cabinet or someplace else. It really does bite to have to shut down the whole house but how often do you do this?

In truth, almost never.....
But also in truth, I almost never need to shut off the sinks or toilets either...

I've been on a real streak lately. 3 kitch remods and 6 baths, all live-ins. What a PITA!

Toilets I can understand, there is always something going wrong with them. Flappers, valves and I do a lot of ADA work (changeouts). Showers may only be used once or twice a day while the kitchen sink takes a real pounding. Maybe that is the answer.

We seem to be short on plumbers and A/C guys.

Congrats on all the new work Tetor! Must be nice to rake in that kind of dollars, especially this time of the year. I must admit I am a bit surprised, I would think the last thing most folks would want around christmas is the possibility of not having the kitchen or worse the bathroom working when grandma and the family comes over....

Not to mention the expense. Hell, my dishwasher (only 1.75 years old mind you) just decided to not open the soap door any more... :~( and its not the kind of thing I'd replace the whole unit for even if I DID have the money... but around Christmas with all the expense of the holiday? How do they do it? :-)

Speaking of your work, I do not remember ever seeing any photos of your stuff posted online. Just did a search for Tetor & Tetor on Google and came up empty. Have you ever posted pics of your remods or other goodies? I am curious to see what ya do.

You have been in on some of my pic posting probs. I work on it from time to time but haven't got it down yet and I'm not getting a lot of help. When I have to, for business, I use EasyShare, Yahoo AND MSN. I shoot it out as invites to the sites and as e-mail attachments. One or two usually work but when I ask which one the talk has already reverted to business. I also opened sites at MSN, Zoomshare, HPPhoto and a few others. Everything is uploaded, there just seems to be a lot of problems with viewing. I pretty much gave up on it. If I ever do get it figured out Nathan is going to need some new servers. LOL

I let my domain go almost 2 yrs. ago, it wasn't doing anything either. It was Teetor.net I'm too busy working to mess with all of this. Someone needs to write programs that work right, first time, everytime.

I'm also in one of the fastest growing areas in the country AND we have had 3 hurricanes in 2 yrs. The ins. money is flowing like water and I'm trying to bottle it as fast as I can.

Give me a simple, easy way to post pics and I'll flood about 6 BB's.
