Stuck core in Moen style cartridge for shower

I'm trying to "simply" replace the cartridge in the shower handle area due the ongoing leaking fr the shower head in our old mobile home. I picked up a Moen stylle cartridge fr Ace and proceeded to remove the old one. Problem is i can't get it out. I removed the case by hand, managed to pull that clip up and out and then used the core puller tool to screw in to the core and pull it out but it wont budge. Turning it seems to just grind up the plastic flanges on old core and pulling doesn't move. Is there something else i need to do? Or is it just calcified in there? It has been years. I've poured a bit of CLR on there just now but i don't know if it can permeated where it needs to just by pouring it on the front of the core that's exposed? Anybody familiar in this area? Pls let me know.

I assume you removed the copper "U" clip??? Sometimes those cartridges are very stubborn, but the puller usually works when just plain pliers and pulling doesn't.

Thanks for replying JB. Yep, i pulled out the clip that removes fr the top. I actually saw a vid where a guy used a tap to thread and then remove the shell of the old cartridge after he pulled out it's center which he referred to as the stem. I haven't been able to achieve that. Roto Rooter told me sometimes the brass body of the cartridge has melded w/ the slot it's in and the prices would be $290 for cartridge replace and $700 for valve replace.

You probably just need to pull harder. Brace yourself so you don't land on your butt when it comes.

Also you mentioned picking up a Moen cartridge. It's probably Price Pfister mobile home (common)

I've had success by heating the valve carefully to melt the o rings that are stuck. Use a torch, turn water off and drain lines, and don't catch the wall on fire behind the shower :-)
