stinky washing machine and drains

about a year ago we remodeld , since then our washing machine smells like a molded rag, our main bathroom sinks smell as well. there is not a problem with drainage just the foul odors. my wife has tried different washing and conditions products but has not helped. the washing machine is about 3 years old, there are pee traps on the washer and the sinks. other bath rooms do not have this issue. please can any body help with the stinkies before it gets hot weather when it gets really bad. thanks

If you have a front loader there are problems with odor. Try running some vinegar through the machine...not sure how much. Probably a couple of cups and a complete hot cycle. Bleach may also work. Leave the door open after every load to let the moisture dry out. The vinegar will neutralize the build up of softeners and detergents and should be done several times a year. Google it for details. The bleach should take care of moldy smell. Hope this helps!

Buy Tide washing machine cleaner in the aisle with the detergent comes in a 3 pack. Try that one a month. It costs about $7 cleans the washer and drain lines. Follow instructions. Hope it helps.

Run conventional bleach in a load of whites periodically, and leave the washer door open so it can dry out. That will kill off any mold you may get growing.

If there is a smell coming from the sink drain, you have a trap / vent problem somewhere (usually a trap problem).

Something worth checking---the last two 'odor in the laundry room' call I had were from a floor drain---the trap had gone dry---

Not a mold smell though--so I think the other members are on the right track----Mike----

I agree that front loaders do smell funny......

Is it possible that you have a leak in one of those drain lines below the house? If the whole area smells funny, you could possibly be dumping water underneath and causing a funky smell.
