State Hot Water Heater

I have two State 80 gallon hot water heaters that I installed parallel with each other. The power source for each one feeds from different panels. These units were installed in my lake house last summer and have always tripped the breaker in the panels or the high limit switch on both tanks. I have attempted to shut off each tank at separate times to trouble shoot and they both still do the same thing? Any idea on what it could be?

What size wire & breakers feed each ?
What does the Mfg require ?

well, to the breaker:

what is the element wattage and what size breaker are they on.

to the high limit: the only reason it trips is if the water gets too hot so I would try setting the t-stats down to 100 or so to see what is happening. If one of the thermostats is not shutting down, it will over heat the water and trip the high limit.

do you have a voltmeter to be able to tell when a t-stat is calling for heat?

The units are setting about 10' from the panels and have #10 wire feeding them. The breaker is a 40amp breaker

Yes, I do have a voltmeter

You don't mean that the water heater that the breaker is off is still a problem when the breaker isn't on, right?
