Stacked washer & dryer units

We have a walled-off section in our kitchen that was built for, & currently houses, our regular sized washer & electric dryer, which are two separate units. The area is about 3' X 6' with bi-fold doors, which was common when the house was built in 1973.

We can't relocate the laundry area & my wife wants some pantry space, so I thought we might go with a stacked washer & dryer unit, thereby freeing up about half of the space to use as a pantry.

My question is this: We don't want one of the narrow type of stacked W/D units like those used in apartments, condos, etc., so who, if anybody, makes full-sized stacked W/D units?

Any recommendations/advice about this issue will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Are your current models both electric?
Verify what a stacked unit will require for power before buying it

Most full sized front loaders will stack. Some even come with the stacking brackets included. They won't require any more power than what you have for your existing side by side units.

maintenance 6 is right. in addition though consider this. when you stack them make sure the pantry space you now have to build is removable. you will probably need to be on the open side of your stack units side to properly push it back to the wall. if you ever need to pull them out for service they may come out and go back in ok, but the few i have installed it was a BIG help to be able to get to the side. making the pantry shelving removable today will save you a lot of pain in the future. your welcome, buddy builder
