spigot shut off
i have ball valves on my 2 outside spigots. about 1' inside the wall. i am figuring that shutting off the ball valve and opening the spigot is all i need to do to prevent a broken/frozen pipe ?

And make sure there's not a hose attached outside.

I'd play it safe and lay the hose out with nothing attached to the ends, roll it up to drain it and store it someplace.
Why leave it out in the cold and sunshine and have it degrading. Connect the two ends together so insects do not make it there home. |

Don't forget to open the little piss caps on the ball valves and make sure water drains out (sometimes the little rubber washer stays stuck to the valve even when you've unscrewed the cap.) It's best to remove the cap and make sure the drain hole is clear (a small brad nail or tack works).
