My kitchen garbage disposer is draining incredibly slow, especially when it isn't running. The sink fills up with an inch or more of water if you let the faucet run.
I checked the obvious by removing the trap to ensure that it wasn't obstructed. The other side of the sink drains quickly, so I know that the pipe isn't clogged downstream of the trap.
So, I'm blaming the disposer. I know how to install them but I've never had to clean one out! Is there a way to clear them of all the crap that my wife puts down the drain? I haven't taken it down just yet, but thought about removing the black elbow that screws to the side of the unit to see if there's something in there. I've tried tossing ice cubes down to see if that helped...It was fun but it didn't help.
How about super-scalding-nuclear hot water? I had a similar problem when someone poured bacon grease (and I mean alot of it) down the disposer. I poured a large pot of boiling water in that joker with it running. No more problems.
