Slow draining bathtub

I just moved into a 100 yr old house. By the time I finish taking a shower I'm standing in 6 inches of water and the toilet is gurgling. I tried snaking it through the overflow but the snake will only go in about 6 inches and won't go in any further. Please help me Get this drain opened.

If your toilet is gurgling (burping?) the problem is downstream and a larger cable (1/2-5/8) sent thru the closet bend after removing the toilet would be more effective. Before I would do that I would remove all the cleanout caps, run water to determine where the problem is exactly. Frequently it is the main line going to the city sewer or septic(septic is a another story)

OR the main vent/stack where it penetrates the roof of your house is frozen or plugged partly with a birds/squirrels nest etc.

Thanks guys... I was thinking it might be the vent stack as well. Gotta get a bigger snake to run through that line. I keep y'all posted.
