simple leaking tap question

Hi all, the hot and cold taps where leaking in my bathroom, water was leaking though the top of the spindle, not out of the heads.....replaced the o ring , seal and washers etc, still leaked....then installed new complete inner boddy assembly with all new seals etc for both hot and cold....the hot is now ok due to the poor pressure, but the cold only leakes through the spindle when half open to full open, dose this mean my cold water pressue is to high and so forces water past the oring and out of the spindle?..

ie when fully closed, no leaks, seating is ok, when open more than half it leaks out the spindle..?

simple leaking tap question

Sounds to me like your not tightening the spindle nut enough to put pressure on the the seal. A new fitting should not leak. Try tightening the nut a little more until the leak stops.

simple leaking tap question

On older taps there's a nut on top which can be screwed down to compress the hemp packing. On most taps though there's a groove in the shaft with an O ring in it. As the spindle threads wear the spindle gets a bit of slop in it which chews out the O ring. When the tap os closed there's no leakage as there's no water pressure until the tap is open. Thats why i replaced the whole inner assembly....still leaks out the spindles...unless i brought the wrong size or something..
