Could you post a picture of the shower faucet? It would be very helpful.

You are probably going to need to get behind the knob to replace either a cartridge or a stem and seat.

You will have to turn the water off so be looking for that cut-off valve. If you get lucky, the shower may have its own in the basement or under the house somewhere? The water to the fixture you are fixing will have to be off until you locate the parts and replace everything so have that plan in mind.

Do post pictures.

If it is just something simple like replacing a cartridge or valve seat and some o-rings this should be a fairly simple project assuming your local supply outlets have the replacement parts so that is the good news. You will need basic tools and maybe a cheap tool for pulling the valve seat and a deep socket for getting to it all.

Sorry to hear your folks are not into keeping the house up but am delighted you are interested in such things.

so i woke up today and i guess my mom is tring to fix it which is out of the norm but this is what i woke up to

she said she turned the water off to the house and there is water coming from where the knob was. i think thats kind of weird because water shouldnt come out from there correct its hot water so im guessing its still coming from the hot water heater. what to do now

Why not? Unlike some people that visit here with nonsense questions just to play, yours was fair and coherent. You also asked a question others face I am sure. No waste of time.
