Shower/tub diverter

When the knob on faucet is pulled only about 20% of water goes to shower. Rest still comes out of faucet.

The faucet turns easily. Is there any danger of damage if I unscrew faucet (Moen) and buy another and screw it on?

I'm skeptical of things that seem easy. I worry about breaking something off inside and water leaks inside a wall.

And since water only comes out when handles are turned on I shouldn't need to turn a shutoff off, right?

(1991 why blue!)

Know the limitations of the materials.

Is there a small set screw on the underside?

Re: Shower/tub diverter

You don't need to pull the faucet to fix the diverter. Unscrew the diverter knob and remove the inner parts. Replace the rubber gasket and that should fix the problem.

WOW, I'll check tomorrow when I back over there.

Clarence, so I unscrew the knob on top and then twist the faucet so its upside down and I should find a rubber gasket?

The other shower has a warped door and water runs out. There needs to be one decent shower.

Re: Shower/tub diverter

Start,

Call Moen and ask them for an install/troubleshooting/replacement manual/sheet for the model # you own. If anything is wrong, they usually will provide a replacement part for you at no charge. More than likely they can/will send you a link w pictures and an install/de-install-replacement steps..

Turning-off the water is not a requirement unless you start working w threaded pipes under pressure. If however, your wives clothes closet is nearby, flipping the shut-off valve may be a good idea
